LGBT 20:20 vision has uncovered the often hidden heritage of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people, and their communities over the past 100 years.
The project enabled today’s current generation of young LGBT people to take part in a series of training sessions and workshops, providing them with the skills needed to conduct interviews with older participants, shining a light on hidden stories of LGBT history.
We interviewed and recorded the oral histories of 20 older LGBT people living in Cambridgeshire. We then invited 3 artists to interpret the histories of the older participants, creating a film, illustrations, and a workshop which tours around Cambridgeshire.
The 20:20 vision project maps how the identity of being LGBT has changed over time, and tracks how isolation, discrimination, and criminalisation meant that LGBT people communities created their own identities.
